Slough in Bloom Honours Founder Margaret Inniss with Inaugural Memorial Award.

The Slough in Bloom Committee celebrated the winners of this year’s gardening competition at a special awards ceremony, paying a poignant tribute to its founder, Margaret Inniss, who passed away recently. The event saw the introduction of a new award presented in her memory, honouring her tireless dedication to creating a more beautiful and vibrant community over three decades.

Special guests this year included The Vice Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Graham Barker, and the Mayor of Slough, Siobhan Dauti. They presented awards to gold-winning residents and businesses. However, the afternoon’s most significant moment was the presentation of the first-ever Margaret Inniss Memorial Award, which celebrates the legacy of a woman whose vision united the people of Slough through a shared passion for gardening. The Margaret Inniss Award for Blooming Excellence went to Simon Richardson.

A representative from the Slough in Bloom committee said, “It is a privilege to celebrate the remarkable efforts of our community and the gold winners who have helped make our borough more vibrant and beautiful. This year, we especially remember Margaret’s incredible legacy. Her vision has allowed this wonderful event to continue thriving year after year, thanks to the ongoing dedication of our volunteers and sponsors.”

For 31 years, Slough in Bloom has fostered a stronger community by celebrating everything from allotments to window boxes. The committee continues to seek donations, both large and small, from local businesses to help fund future awards ceremonies and judging.
